Three hundred twenty-nine CEAT fresh graduates, 22 with Latin honours led by CEAT class valedictorian Marlo Angelo Tito, were recognized at the first ever UPLBCollege of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology Virtual Testimonial Program held August 15, 2020via YouTube and Facebook Live.
DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” Dela Peña gave an inspirational message starting with the mention of allocated funds for COVID vaccines for 40 million Filipinos as well as the proposed Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines (VIP), among others. He urged the fresh graduates to try to reflect and figure out oneself, on what is it that will make one successful while achieving harmony in the workplace. He added that the key to success is innovation, and that research and development will help.
Her Excellency VP Maria Leonor Robredo also graced the program with a message. She hoped that the value and meaning of the virtual commencement exercises will not be lost due to the circumstances that we are in. She implored the fresh graduates to serve the people and to do the right and just things. She assured them that she is with them with their journey “palabas” to help more people who are in need, and “pasulong” towards a more humane future. “Kapit lang. Laban langlagi,” she underscored.
The testimonial program includes a welcome message from Dr. Arnold R. Elepaño, CEAT Dean, and a message from the chancellor, Dr.Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr. In his message, Dr. Sanchez urged the fresh graduates to take part and contribute to sustainable solutions to climate change, environmental management, development of affordable and clean energy, food security and safety and promoting just and social policies. He also challenged the graduates to contribute to the community to achieve a better world.
Graduates with special awards were recognized in the program.
CEAT Student Council also made a tribute video to the graduates, while Class Valedictorian Marlo Angelo Tito,who hails from the City of Tagum, Davao Del Norte, responded to the challenge on behalf of the graduating class. He stressed out that one’s overall well-being is as important as academics. He mentioned that the university taught him tostand for what is right and speak for those who are unheard; and that honour always comes before excellence.“Do the best that you can and do it honorably” he added.
Engr. Pantaleon Tabanao led the induction of the CEAT graduating class of 2020 to the CEAT Alumni Association. Dr. Myra G. Borines, the CEAT Associate Dean gave the closing remarks.
Coro de Camara de Filipinas provided the songs for the 2-hour event streamed from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
